May 11, 1928 - April 10, 2017 Macon, GA- Martha Coggins cast her last ray of sunlight on the world when she was finally called home on April 10, 2017. A woman of incredible inner strength who embodied "calm force", she imprinted a positive spirit and joyful demeanor on everyone she met. Born to William Isaac Powell and Arliffa Marietta Davis in Parrott GA on May 11, 1928. She moved to Macon, GA in 1942 and graduated from Miller High School and got her Associates Degree from Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga followed by some additional coursework at Mercer in Macon GA. She played trumpet, acted in the theater, and entered beauty pageants. An early adopter of the 2 income family, her career began in her Dad's general store and progressed to clothing stores in Macon concluding with a long and successful career in manpower planning at Robins AFB. She married Andrew Murray Coggins on March 11, 1951 and had three children. She is predeceased by her husband and one daughter, Christie Ann Coggins. She is survived by her son, Andrew Murray Coggins Jr. and daughter, Carol Lee Coggins Johnson (Ray) and three grandchildren, Elizabeth Murray, Ashleigh Rae, and Anna-Kathryn Johnson; three sisters, Cynthia Yablon (Frenchie) Pasadena Texas, Evelyn Barken of Atlanta Georgia, and Nancy Boney of Macon Georgia, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member (and served on the board) of many organizations including, Toastmistress, Charm, Garden Club, Macon Motorboat Club, Sunshine Fellowship, AARP, AAA, and was a First Class licensed Ham Radio Operator. She enjoyed arts and crafts and loved her Hiawassee Georgia mountain home that she and her husband built with their own two hands. A long-term Baptist and Primitive Baptist, she attended Sardis Primitive Baptist Church and was a member of Cherokee Heights and Houston Heights Baptist Church where she and her sister-in-law, Ruby Busbee, served as the flower committee well into their 80s. A gentle soul, universally liked by everyone, she was known for her sense of humor and light-heartedness. Her final three months were spent at Bolingreen Rehab where the staff treated her like family and provided the best service by-far of any of the other Macon facilities we visited during her 4-year battle with numerous ailments.
