Martha Chloe Brown Sims

Martha Chloe Brown Sims passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2009. She died peacefully having spent her last hours surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM Saturday, September 19, 2009, at Gray United Methodist Church, Historic Sanctuary, with Dr. Wayne Moseley and the Reverend Tommy Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, main gate. Visitation: Friday 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street. The family may be contacted at 3932 Upper River Road.

Born in McIntyre, Georgia to Henry C. & Jeanie Fleming Brown, she graduated from Miller in 1953. She married her sweetheart, Bobby Sims, in 1954. After forty-five years of marriage, she lost her husband to heart disease and was left to face her life without him. Martha was blessed in that she was able to spend many years at home rearing her children. When she entered the work force, she worked at Belk Matthews in the sales audit department. She left there to join the staff at Riverside Cemetery in 1977. Cancer forced her into retirement in 2005. She spent many happy times in her kitchen baking and she was happiest when with her children and grandchildren. Martha was a member at Gray United Methodist Church where she fellowshipped with the Bible Study Sunday School Class. She also enjoyed her involvement with her Lunch Bunch Group-Class of 1953. Martha is survived by her devoted and loving mother, Mrs. Jeanie Fleming Brown. She is also survived by three sons: R. Stephen Sims and his wife Dorothy, B. Clint Sims, and P. Matthew Sims and his wife JoAnne, and one daughter Susan Gordon and her husband Stewart . Martha had eight grandchildren: S. Leslie Gordon, Jr., R. Derek Sims, S. Andrew Sims, S. Robert (Bob) Gordon, Nelson S. Gordon and his wife Melissa Hill Gordon, Dorothy E. Sims, Hayden C. R. Lee, and Tia L. R. Lee. She was blessed with two great grandchildren, Sidney J. Gordon and Andrew Joseph Sims. Her family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all those who so kindly assisted in her care during her long-fought battle.
