Marcus V. Simmons, Jr., 80, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Riverside United Methodist Church. The Reverend Steve Waldorf will officiate. The family may be contacted at the home of Dana and Ross Adams, 4869 Wesleyan Woods Drive. Memorial donations may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church Building Fund, 735 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204 or to The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204. Mr. Simmons graduated from Lanier High School in 1952, and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Georgia in 1956, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He served in the United States Navy and was employed at Lowe Electric for over 50 years. He was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, the Macon Touchdown Club, and the Greater Piedmont Touchdown Club (GPTC). He was an avid sports fan who loved the University of Georgia Bulldogs and was dedicated to the coaching of youth sports. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and loved all his family and friends. Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy H. Simmons of Macon; daughter, Dana Simmons Adams (Ross) of Macon; son, Marcus Simmons III (Carol) of Athens; grandchildren, John Ross Adams III and Lillian Ross Adams of Macon, Elizabeth Hays Simmons and Marcus V. "Mack" Simmons IV of Athens; sister, Marjorie Simmons Tanner (Wilton Vernon) of Macon; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Register online at www.hartsmort.com.
