Mrs. Milford B. Hatcher
Marion Campbell Hatcher, 5300 Zebulon Road, age 89, died at her residence on Friday, February 4, 2011 following a long illness. Services will be held at 11:30AM on Monday, February 7, 2011 at Highland Hills Baptist Church with Dr. James C. Dant and Dr. Charles Roy Woodruff officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola from 3:00PM - 5:00PM on Sunday, February 6, 2011 or may be contacted at the residence of Kathleen Medlin, 124 Wolf Creek Drive. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Highland Hills Baptist Church, 1370 Briarcliff Road, Macon, GA 31211; the Marion C. Hatcher Scholarship Fund, Mercer School of Medicine, Mercer University, 31207; or a charity of the donor's choosing.
The daughter of the late Charles Walter Campbell and Marion Brown Campbell, Mrs. Hatcher was born in Columbus, GA on August 4, 1921, then moved to Jacksonville, FL as a child. She graduated from The Bartram School, Jacksonville, FL, where she was class Valedictorian, attended Vassar College, and received an A.B. degree from the University of Alabama where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.
In 1942, she married the late Dr Milford B Hatcher of Macon. Following World War II, they settled in Macon. She and her husband were co-founders of Highland Hills Baptist Church where, until her illness, Mrs. Hatcher remained especially active in the WMU and Seekers of Truth Sunday School Class. She served as President of the Bibb County Medical Auxiliary (1949-50), was a Sustaining Member of the Junior League of Macon, a Life Member of the Jackson Springs Garden Club and the History Club of Macon, a member of Idle Hour Country Club, and was an avid bridge player.
Mrs. Hatcher is survived by her children, Kathleen H. Cook (Gene) of Musella, GA and Milford B. Hatcher Jr. (Aileen) of Jacksonville, FL, three grandchildren, Kathleen C. Medlin (John) and Marion C. McIntyre (Chris) of Macon and Janet C. Carter (Walker) of Washington, DC, and five great-grandchildren, Anna Kate and Jack Medlin, Stella and Campbell McIntyre, all of Macon, and Shelby Carter of Washington, DC. She was predeceased by a grandson, John Steven Cook, and two great-grandsons, Michael Hammond Carter, III and Walker Paxton Carter, Jr.
