Mariette Graham

Mariette Graham was born in Tallahassee, Florida on September 24, 1943. She passed away in Macon, Georgia October 22, 2017 at Coliseum Hospital after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Her parents, Jack and Rachel Butt, and brothers, Johnny and Willis Butt, all predeceased her. A native of Macon, she was educated in the Bibb County Public Schools and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at Grady Hospital in Atlanta. Her nursing career included positions in ICU at Gorgas Hospital of the Panama Canal Company and at Coliseum Hospital in Macon, from which she retired in 2015. She also served as a public health nurse in the Forsyth/Macon area for many years. While living in Panama, Mrs. Graham was president of the AF of GE Local Nurses Union for a few years. She was active in the implementation of the Panama-United States Treaty. She was a member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church after relocating home to Macon, Georgia. Mrs. Graham lived a very full life, was well read, and loved to travel. She spent her retirement volunteering with the homeless at Daybreak in Macon. She is survived by her husband, Alfred J. Graham; daughter, Rachel "Gigi" Graham; nieces, Debra Russell and Michelle Butt; step-daughter, Anna Luby; step-son, Alfred Graham, Jr.; step-granddaughter, Melissa Graham; and several cousins. A memorial service for Mrs. Graham will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210. A reception will be held prior to the service from 12:00-2:00 PM.
