Macon- Mrs. Marie Middleton, 99, Macon, GA departed life June 12, 2010, in the caring environment and familiar surroundings of her Assisted Living community, John-Wesley Villas. Mrs. Middleton was born April 4, 1911, in Jones County, GA, the daughter of the late George and Mattie Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Edward Lee Middleton, Sr.; daughter, Rose Marie Morris; brothers, Raymond, Clarence and George (Bill) Cook, Jr.; sisters, Ruby Ozburn, May Sawyer and Minnie Arnold. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Edward Lee, Jr., and Vi Middleton, Griffin, GA; grandchildren, Dr. Nancy Morris, New Orleans, LA and Dennis Morris, Evanston, IL; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Middleton not only held the longest-term membership in Cross Keys United Methodist Church but also held the distinction of being its oldest member. She took great pleasure in participating in church programs and activities, including United Methodist Women, Joyful Disciple Sunday School Class, Prayer Group, Senior Citizens, and Food Bank. Her business career spanned several years in Retail Sales at Dannenberg Company and Burden Smith Company, retiring from the latter in 1973. The Memorial Service for Mrs. Marie Middleton will be conducted on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Hart's Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, with the Reverends Steve Waldorf and Lee Bennett officiating. Graveside services will follow at Macon Memorial Park with interment in the Middleton family plot. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, it was Mrs. Middleton's request that donations, in her memory, be made to the Cross Keys United Methodist Church, 1825 Jeffersonville Road, Macon, GA 31217-4346. Hart's Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, Macon, GA is in charge of the arrangements.
