Marian Gibson

Macon-Marian Adkins Gibson, 72, of Macon passed away Saturday, November 28, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 2, 2009, in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola with Dr. Marcus Tripp officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The family may be contacted at the residence. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Heartland Hospice.

Born in Orlando, Florida, Marian was the daughter of Lucy Kathleen Johnson Adkins and John Stoy Adkins. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Hugh Hinton Gibson of Macon, son Hugh Hinton Gibson, Jr. (Pamela) of Grayson, Georgia, daughter Lisa Gibson Wilson (Walt) of Natchez, Mississippi and daughter Lea Gibson Capers (Joe) of Destin, Florida. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Ann Pender of Natchez, Mississippi and three grandchildren Sarah Ruth Gibson, Caroline Kathleen Gibson and William Hinton Wilson.

Marian graduated from the Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing and worked at the Talmage Hospital and the Saint Joseph Hospital in Augusta. She has been an avid artist for all of her life. She was chairman of the board and chief executive officer of the Gibson household. Marian was a member of the Thornwood Garden Club and the Middle Georgia Arts Society. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
