Marguerite Baxter Matthews, the former Marguerite Gunn Baxter, was born in Macon, Georgia on June 10, 1928 and died in Macon, Georgia at Pine Pointe Hospice on November 19, 2011. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Vineville United Methodist Church, Dr. Marcus Tripp officiating. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5 until 7 PM on Tuesday at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vineville United Methodist Church outreach ministries, 2045 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204 or to the donor's favorite charity.
A Macon native and lifelong resident, Marguerite attended Alexander IV, A L. Miller High School, and Randolph Macon Women's College, Lynchburg, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Virginia Gunn Palmer and John Tracy Baxter, sister of the late John Tracy Baxter, Jr., wife of the late William Cobb Matthews, and mother of the late Thomas Tinsley Matthews.
Survivors include her children: daughter, Marguerite Matthews Parker (Tim) of Macon; son, William Cobb Matthews, Jr. of Atlanta; daughter, Tracy Matthews Lore of Weston,Florida; grandchildren: Timothy Augustus Parker, Jr. and Sarah Tinsley Parker, both of Atlanta; Kathleen Forbes Matthews of Athens and Thomas Tinsley Matthews, Jr. of Macon; John Heumann Lore, Jr. and William Cobb Lore of Weston, Florida; daughter-in-law, Kathleen McCunniff Matthews; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
