Macon-Margie S. Gunnell died on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Services will be held at 12:00PM on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, with Pastor Chris Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven. Visitation will be Friday, March 20, 2009 between 6:00-8:00PM at the Cupola. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 4406, Macon, GA 31208.
Mrs. Gunnell was born in McRae, GA to the late Marion B. Stearman and the late Birdie Livingston Stearman. She was a past president of the Ladies' Auxiliary Post 658 of the VFW. Mrs. Gunnell worked tirelessly to erect the Veteran's Memorial at the Macon Coliseum. She was a member of the Bloomfield Garden Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Walter "Doc" Gunnell, Jr. of Macon; sons, Joey (Len) Robertson of Wetumpka, AL, and Thomas Robertson of Macon; daughter Lisa (Hal) Hunter of Dublin; and son, Joe (Tracie) Gunnell of Macon; ten grand children, Ivy (John) Campbell of Snellville, GA, Thomas Robertson, Jr. of Macon, Matthew Robertson of Macon, Lance Hines of Dublin, Clint Hines of Dublin, Maria Gunnell of Macon, Joanna (Kevin) Balkcom of Macon, Jennifer Gunnell of Macon, Taylor Harris of Macon, and Mitchell Harris of Macon; two great grandchildren, Katelyn Hines of Dublin, and Brady Balkcom of Macon; brother Edmund Stearman of Tallahassee, FL; sister, Mary Povich of Indianapolis, IN; and her loving Maltese, Max.
