Margaret Jenks Schlenker

November 23, 1926 — May 14, 2015

Margaret Jenks Schlenker, age 88, of Gaston, Indiana died on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Cottages on Wesleyan, in Macon, Georgia. Margaret was born on November 23, 1926 in Akron, Ohio to Katherine Fairweather Jenks and Robert Jenks. Her sister, Katherine Jenks Stewart and brother, Peter Jenks both preceded her in death. She graduated from Oberlin High School in 1944 and Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois. She married the late Gordon Schlenker in 1948, and moved to Gaston, Indiana, where they built a house adjacent to his grandmother. Margaret lived in her home for 64 years, until she moved to Macon, Georgia to be closer to her two daughters. Margaret loved books. In her early years of marriage, she enjoyed public speaking and gave book reviews to various clubs and organizations. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of Gaston Methodist Church and later Gethsemane United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school. Margaret enjoyed entertaining, cooking and people. In the late 1980's and 1990's she worked in catering, and later became the food site manager for food at Gillespie Tower, Muncie, Indiana. After catering, she was a receptionist for Cornerstone Center for the Arts, also in Muncie, until January 2014. Margaret was a generous person, ready to listen or to pray with anyone; always leaving herself last. Her Christian faith and family were most important to her. She devoted much of her life to her two daughters. Although separated by many miles, she kept up with her daughters' activities praying for them and their families every day. Margaret is survived by her two daughters: Bonnie Hinshaw (Creede) of Macon, Georgia and Linda Seitz (Harold) of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren Jess Hinshaw (Beth) of South Korea, Jeremy Hinshaw (Brandi) of Macon, Georgia and Jacob Hinshaw of Denver, Colorado; great grandson, Graham Hinshaw of Macon, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was loved by many and will be missed everyday by her daughters. A private funeral will be held at Zion Cemetery in Gaston, Indiana in the morning of Tuesday, May 19, 2105. Visitation with the family will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 1:00PM, followed by a 2:00PM memorial service at Meeks Mortuary, 415 E. Washington Street, Muncie, Indiana.
