Margaret Ruth McKenna Williamson died August 12, in St Augustine at home with her family. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2009 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Allan McDonald officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, north gate. Rosary services will be Friday at 6:00PM at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street. Margaret was born in Macon, Georgia, November 15, 1912 to Steve Edward McKenna and Annie Ruth Mathews. Paternal grandparents -Andrew and Anastasia Dillon McKenna who came from Ireland. Maternal grandparents- Benjamin Blaine Mathews and Margaret Susan Dewberry. She graduated from Mount de Sales Academy 1930. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She graduated as an RN from St. Joseph Infirmary (Atlanta) in 1935. She was a Nursing supervisor at Athens General Hospital and did private duty nursing in Atlanta. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Lt Col Corbett Williamson, who served in Italy in WWII and one brother, Stephen McKenna. She is survived by daughters, Margaret Shellenberger (Bob) and Barbara Williamson (John Campbell); grand children, Deidre Shellenberger (Joey Stowe) of Atlanta and Robbie Shellenberger- US Army; great- grandchild Vanessa Shellenberger of Athens and beloved family; Rose Marie and Marguerite Campbell. She has many nieces, nephews and cousins in the Macon. Margaret or Maggie was a charming, lovable, loving and witty Irish southern lady. She enjoyed life, music, playing cards and being with her family and friends of all ages and walks of life. She loved the Georgia Bulldogs and the Mercer Bears football where Corbett played football in the 1930s. She was known for wearing her sparkling hats with her button," I've survived damn near everything!" She lived in Macon until she was 90 and then moved to Florida to be near family. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for 90 years and enjoyed her friends in St Monica's Guild, including Margaret Raney and the late Louise Orr. For the last 7 years, she has been a resident of Atlantic Beach and St Augustine, where she was a member of Cathedral Parish in St Augustine.
