Margaret Alice Martin “Peggy” Timberlake

April 11, 1943 — April 23, 2020

Margaret Alice Martin “Peggy” Timberlake, 77, of Macon, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to North Macon Presbyterian Church Missions at 5707 Rivoli Dr, Macon, GA 31210, MTW Ambassador’s Fund at P.O. Box 744165, Atlanta, GA 30374-4165, or Strong Tower Fellowship at 2193 Vineville Ave., Macon, GA 31204.

Peggy was born April 11, 1943 to the late Robert D. Martin and Margaret Murphey Martin.  She graduated from Miller High School in 1961 and from Wesleyan College in 1965.  In December 1964, she married her high school sweetheart, Joe Timberlake.

Peggy was a loving mother to her three children, Beth Oropeza of Gainesville, Georgia, Margaret Larson of North Tustin, California, and Bob Timberlake of Columbus, Georgia.  She was a devoted grandmother to her seven grandchildren, Caitlyn, Ansley, Megan, Sarah & Rebecca Timberlake, and Ana and Josh Oropeza.  She was also a dedicated sister to her brother, Denson Martin of Dahlonega, Georgia, three nephews, and countless cousins.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her granddaughter, Amelia Timberlake.

A lifelong resident of Macon, Peggy loved her church families, as church was the place that brought her the most joy, shared with all by rejoicing in her love of music.  In her years at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, she served on the Administrative Board and Council on Ministries, volunteered in the music ministry, and served behind the scenes in many different roles.  While they were members of Vineville Presbyterian Church, she served as the co-chair of the missions committee for more than ten years.  She was a volunteer cook and Bible study leader for ladies at Strong Tower Fellowship.  She was most recently a member of North Macon Presbyterian Church, where she was very active in the ladies’ Sunday School class, Monday morning prayer group, and the mission committee.

Peggy was a member of the Morning Music Club for her entire adult life and served as a past chair.  She also taught English as a Second Language and Bible studies to Japanese women living in Macon.  Service to others was integral to her life, often leading quietly and behind the scenes, and demonstrating her love of Christ through actions and deeds.
