Edna Margaret "Margo" Jenkins, age 94, died Saturday, December 12, 2015, at her home in Lombard, Illinois. Graveside services will be held at noon on Friday, December 18, 2015, at Riverside Cemetery in Macon. There will be a celebration of life service at First Baptist Church of Oak Park, Illinois, at a date yet to be determined. Ms. Jenkins was born and raised in Macon, Georgia. After graduating from Miller High School, she obtained her undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia which she attended on a full scholarship. Later Ms. Jenkins completed her Master's degree with an emphasis in speech pathology at Columbia University with further studies at Northwestern University in Chicago. During WWII, Ms. Jenkins served as a commissioned officer in the Navy (Women Approved for Volunteer Emergency Service) achieving the rank of Lt. JG. She served as a speech therapist helping servicemen recover their speech and language function after wartime trauma. The majority of her working career was spent as a speech therapist with the Illinois State School System. She also worked at Elmhurst Hospital and later taught at The College of DuPage. Ms. Jenkins was an active member of First Baptist Church of Oak Park, Illinois, and served for many years as a coordinator for Senior Ministry events. She was also active in the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. Ms. Jenkins is survived by her brother John Marion Jenkins of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and her brother William Frances Jenkins (Virginia) of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, as well as nieces and nephews Patty Mazarky (Brent), Becky Summers (Tom), David Jenkins (Joy), Allan Jenkins, Steve Jenkins, and many great nieces and nephews.
