Macon-Margaret Copeland Harris, 87, of the Gables at Wolf Creek, died on Monday, January 05, 2009. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00PM on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Dasher Church of Christ with burial in Dasher Cemetery in Dasher, GA. The family will greet family and friends prior to the service at the church. Visitation will be held between 5:00-7:00PM, Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, GA.
Mrs. Harris was born October 10, 1921 in Valdosta, GA. to the late Oscar and LaRue Copeland. She graduated from Lake Park High School and Valdosta State College. She retired from the Alabama public school system having taught as an elementary school teacher for over twenty years. She lived in Decatur, AL before moving to Macon, GA five years ago.
Mrs. Harris was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Douglass Harris, a minister of the Church of Christ. She and her husband faithfully served churches in Georgia and Alabama for over 60 years. She was a member of the Thomaston Road Church of Christ.
She is survived by sons, W. Douglass Harris, Jr., Ladera Ranch, CA, Richard Harris, Macon and daughter, Peggy (Ben) White, Macon; two grandchildren, Cindy (Dan) Adrien, Forsyth, and Benjy (Camille) White, Macon; three great-grandchildren, Parker and Ethan White and Olivia Adrien; two sisters, Faye (Cleo) Wisenbaker, Dasher, GA, Maye (Kenneth) Parkinson, Union City, GA; sister-in-law, Cornelia Lovell, Columbia, TN; and brother-in-law, Dennis (Sarah) Harris, Holt's Corner, TN.
Flowers are welcomed or a memorial contribution may be made to Georgia Christian School, 4359 Dasher Road, Valdosta, GA 31601.
