Mrs. Alford was the daughter of the late Frank and Jessie Welch and grew up in Montgomery, Alabama where she married her childhood sweetheart, Murry Lee Alford. She was a member of Vineville Baptist Church where she also worked for twelve years. She was a loving wife of sixty-four years and a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was fondly known as "Bye" to the grandchildren. She was a mathematical whiz and served as Financial Secretary at Vineville Baptist Church and later worked in Alabama for H and R Block where she was a branch manager and wrote a training manual for new employees. After retiring in 1989, Mr. and Mrs. Alford moved back to Macon. She enjoyed church, family, cooking and her friends. For years, Mrs. Alford organized her Sunday School's benevolent and social activities. She had a keen sense of humor with a sarcastic twist and her competitive spirit showed in everything from the game board at the kitchen table to the golf course. Not only will she be missed by her family, but by her many friends who could always count on her to help them during a time of need. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Katie Lamb.
