Marcus "Marc" Blake Whitten, 44, died shortly before midnight on August 10, 2018 following an extended illness. Marc's gentle spirit and kind soul will be remembered and cherished by the many lives he touched. His determination, perseverance, and great courage will remain as a remarkable inspiration to those he leaves behind.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 18, at 1:00PM at Hart’s, Cupola Chapel, 6324 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210. The family will greet friends following the service. Donations in Marc's memory may be made to the Jazz Association of Macon, PO Box 4192, Macon, GA 31208-4192. Marc had an intense interest in musical education and memorial contributions to JAM will be directed to their musical education program.

Marc graduated from First Presbyterian Day School in 1992. He attended Emory University and the University of Georgia, graduating from UGA in 2000 with a B.S. in Marine Biology. He graduated from Mercer University in 2004 with a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. And he attended Mercer University School of Medicine from 2005 through 2008, until his health declined. Marc was blessed with many talents. He was well-educated in the sciences, and was also an artist and musician. He had a passion for all musical genres, and he especially loved playing his guitars. Marc loved all animals, the oceans, and beaches.

Marc was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Cleburne Faircloth, his paternal grandfather, Richard "Red" Whitten, and his faithful sheepdog of 15 years, Miles. Marc is survived by his devoted parents, Rick and Sue Whitten of Macon, grandmothers Emogene Faircloth and Barbara Hall of Macon, and uncles and aunts: Dwight (Bobbie) Faircloth of Macon, Doug (Linda) Faircloth of Albany, Sandra (Tommy) Joiner of Byron, David (Kathy) Whitten of Harrietts Bluff, Michael (Lynneth) Whitten of Macon, Mary (George) Robinson of Spartanburg, SC, Valerie (Carly) Testerman of Spartanburg, SC, John Whitten of Danville, VA, and his faithful sheepdog, Bird.

The family especially wants to thank Dr. Shahriar Sedghi for his 20+ years of medical care for Marc. The family also wishes to express their fond appreciation to Dr. Linda Hendricks and Dr. Alan Justice for their devoted attention to Marc's care and comfort for the past several years and to Adrian McBride, RN for the kind home nursing care he provided to Marc in his final months of life.
