Dr. Freddie Smith and Reverend Joe McDaniel will officiate. The family will greet friends from 10 AM until the chapel service. Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 18, 2017, at 3:30 PM in the Jordan Church Cemetery, Route 1, Waycross, Georgia (Dixie Union, Georgia). In every respect, Lucille embodied the psalmist's ideal of the virtuous woman found in Proverbs 31. As all who knew her, we witnessed her live 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." She was the model of honoring her Lord with an attitude of, "This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24). Lucille was born on November 21, 1921 in Waycross, Georgia to the late J.J. and Iola Bennett Minchew. She graduated from Wacona High School, Tift College Cum Laude and attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. While attending Southwestern Seminary, she met Allen Comish. They were married on September 14, 1951 at the First Baptist Church Brunswick, Georgia. They worked together for almost 60 years with Southern Baptist churches or the Convention itself, mainly through the Baptist Sunday School Board. Prior to marriage, Lucille was a popular Junior High School teacher in Ware and Glynn Counties. In the summers, she with other young people, worked in Georgia and North Carolina through their State Conventions leading conferences on Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, and Vacation Bible School work. This was a period of great growth in Southern Baptist churches which culminated in enrolling almost one million new people in Sunday Schools of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1954. Lucille was an active member of her church. Her first love was Bible study and Bible teaching. That love stayed with her all her life. She was a sought-after Bible teacher for weekday and home Bible studies before there were prepared materials available. For many years, she joined her husband Allen in leading conferences on Sunday School work at the Ridgecrest North Carolina Baptist assembly and the Glorieta New Mexico Baptist assembly. Lucille and her husband, Allen, were heavily involved in Christian activities throughout their lives. Lucille served as president of the Georgia Baptist Ministers Wives Association. In the 1960s, when she and her family lived in Columbus, she organized an inter-racial Christian women's group. In 1981 Lucille was honored as one of the "Gracious Ladies of Georgia." This recognition honors "women who have contributed and continue to contribute to making the world a better place in which to live." Lucille worked as a District Manager for World Book Childcraft International for 20 years. Her love of young people was well known. She was always an encourager, a confidant, and Bible teacher of young people and young adults. In her later years, she was a faithful member of the Friendship Sunday School class of Mabel White Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Allen Comish, parents J.J. and Iola Bennett Minchew, brothers Dr. John E. Minchew and J.V. Minchew, infant brother Jeffie Eldon Minchew, and sister Helen Minchew Childs. Lucille was a devoted and loving wife, mother and friend. She held close and is survived by her son Craig and his wife Nancy and grandsons Harrison and Jonathan Comish. She had a deep affection for her brother Hal Minchew and sister-in-law Sara Minchew and her nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express appreciation and thanks to special friends Victoria and Henry Jenkins, Linda and Larry Benton, Deborah Wilson, and the staff and caregivers at Interim Health Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mabel White Baptist Church, 1415 Bass Road, Macon, Georgia 31210 or Musella Baptist Church, P.O. Box 56, Musella, Georgia 31066.
