Louise Futrelle Dodd

Louise Futrelle Dodd passed away on Monday, November 22, 2010.

Mrs. Dodd was the daughter of Kathleen Shearouse and Franklin Jefferson Futrelle. Born in 1929 and was a native of Guyton, Georgia. Mrs. Dodd was a graduate of Wesleyan College in Macon. She was also on their Board of Managers and president of the Macon Wesleyan Alumnae Association.

Mrs. Dodd lived in Wrightsville, Georgia for thirty-five years where she taught school, and was active in church and community affairs. She served as president of the Laurens County Medical Auxilliary and was married for forty-four years to Dr. William Asa Dodd. In 1967, Mrs. Dodd was elected Mrs. Macon and given a key to the city of Macon and Wrightsville.

Dr. and Mrs. Dodd moved to Macon in 1985, where she was active in many organizations, serving as president of the Hill and Dale Garden Club and president of The Macon Writer's Club. She also served on the boa rd of the Macon Duplicate Bridge Club. Louise was an active member of River side United Methodist Church, serving on the Finance and the Board of Trustees. She served as president of the Beaty-Gray Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Dodd, an award winning feature editor of The Courier Herald in Dublin, wrote a weekly column "From the Kitchen of Louise Dodd" for 31 years and for many years was the food editor for "Macon Magazine. " She published a cookbook of her culinary travels entitled, "Eating from the White House to the Jailhouse" which is now in its second re-print.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Porter and husband, DuBose Porter of Dublin; son, William A. Dodd, of Macon; four grandsons, Stephen DuBose Porter, Jr., Guyton McCall DuBose Porter, Asa Shearouse DuBose Porter and Inman Lee DuBose Porter. Mrs. Dodd is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Richardson of Guyton, Ga.; sister-in-law, Sybil Futrelle of Augusta, Ga. and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dodd is predeceased by her brother Fr anklin J. Futrelle.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. The Reverend Sonny Mason and Dr. James N. Griffith will officiate. The family will be receiving friends at a reception immediately following the service at Hart's at the Cupola. Burial will be Friday at 11a.m. in Guyton, Georgia at Guyton Cemetery.
