Loraine Mizell Stone

Loraine Mizell Stone, 96, of Macon, Georgia, passed away May 13, 2025. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Hart’s Mortuary on Cherry Street. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 17th, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1624 Williamson Road, Macon, GA 31206. Burial will follow the service at Cumorah Cemetery in Douglas, Georgia.

Daughter of the late Grady and Gladys Mizell. Loraine was born in Pahokee, Florida on January 26, 1929. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her deep spirituality was evident in her everyday life and interactions with those around her. Her hands, always busy, crafting warmth and love through her crochet work. She had a passion for cooking and created not just meals but memories for her family. Loraine was renowned for her fabulous culinary skills, especially during family gatherings where she expressed her love through every dish she prepared.  Above all, she cherished moments with her family.

Loraine will be lovingly remembered by her children: W.R. Stone, Latrelle S. Lathrop (Henry), Gary L. Stone (Margaret), Barbara B. Sue (Celestine), Karen S. Hunsinger (Jason), and Alyssa H. Mathews; grandchildren: Michael, Loranda, Jason, Stephanie A., Malissa, Daniel, Gary, Robert, Emily, Bren, Layne, Taylor, Paul and Alexus; 31 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; siblings: Dorthalene Knowles, Magdalene Gill, Mandlon Blount, and Peggy Vickers.

In addition to her parents, Loraine was preceded in death by her husband Randall Dempsey Stone; daughters, Glenda Jean Bassar and Deborah Sue Stone; grandchild, Stephanie Thornton; siblings, Lendsay Mizell, Hilda Markette, Lillie Frances Ricks, and W. L. Mizell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
