Lois Schrader Mclain

Lois Schrader McLain, 102, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025.  Services will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church. Family will meet friends after the service.  Burial will be private.

Lois was born on October 26, 1922, in Olivet, Kansas, the fifth daughter of the late Charles and Mena Schrader.  She attended Kansas State Teachers College and earned a teaching certificate for elementary education.  After a year of teaching, she moved to California to be a part of the war effort and was employed by the San Bernardino Base Air Service Command as a civil service statistical clerk. It was there that she met and married the late Frank Bailey McLain who served as an Air Force officer on the base. When WWII ended, they returned to his home of Americus, Georgia. After several years they relocated to Macon which was to become their permanent home.

Lois became active as a volunteer in many community organizations.  She was a member and Past President of the Jackson Springs Garden Club and served two terms as President of the Civic Women’s Club. She was a charter supporting member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary and enjoyed her work with the Friends of the Library. She became very active in the Historic Macon Foundation where she served a term on the Board of Trustees, as chairman of the Cottage Committee and received the Jenny Thurston Award for service in 2015. As a member of Mulberry Street UMC she taught Sunday school, served on the Altar Guild for thirty-five years and was President of the Solomon Fellowship Class. She served on the Board of Trustees for six years and terms on the Nominating, Worship, Pastor /Staff Relations, and Parsonage committees as well as the Administrative Board.

She is preceded in death by her husband Frank and her four sisters, Pauline Supple, Louise Miller, Lucille Lord and Ruth Row. She is survived by her son Dr. Steve McLain (Jeanne) and her daughter Sharon Edwards (Larry) along with five grandchildren; Charles McLain (Tara), Philip McLain, Austin Edwards (Tori), Peyton Edwards (Grace), and Carly Edwards (Dan), and six great grandchildren, Lillianne (Dylan), Bailey (Miranda), and Braylon McLain, Eleanor and Arthur Edwards, and Lucy Mancuso.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Memorial Fund at Mulberry UMC or Historic Macon Foundation at 338 Poplar Street, Macon, GA 31201.

Hart’s Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201, has charge of the arrangements.
