Linda Harrison Spires

Mrs. Linda Spires, 71, of Macon, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024. A memorial service will be at Hart’s Mortuary Cherry Street Chapel, Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 2pm with the Reverend Robbie Passmore officiating.  The family will greet friends and family one hour prior to the service.

Born in Macon, Linda was a 1970 graduate of McEvoy High School.  She went on to earn a four-year degree at the University of Georgia where she played tennis, and two master’s degrees in mathematics and education from Georgia College.  Linda met her husband, Ricky, in 1983, and they were married May 17, 1986.  Dedicating 40 years of her career to the education system, she worked at Hamilton, Walter P. Jones, and Union Elementary Schools, Tattnall Square Academy, Weaver Middle School, Vineville Academy, and Rosa Taylor Elementary School.  Linda appreciated music (especially The Beatles) as well as art and collected many works over her lifetime.  She loved hosting parties and participating in the yearly “Faculty Follies” at Tattnall.  Linda was a life-long athlete and sports fan who enjoyed watching her favorite teams, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves.  She played on a Women’s National Championship softball team and was twice the women’s club champion at River North for golf.  Up until just a few years ago, she and Ricky would make several trips a year to fish on the St. John’s River.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents, William and Jacquelyn Harrison.  She is survived by her husband, Ricky Spires; daughter, Kellie Davis (Jeffrey) of Blairsville, GA ; sons, Rick Spires (Britney) and Hal Spires (Morgan) both of Macon; grandchildren, Jacqueline Davis, Lucas Spires, and Georgia Spires; brother, William “Bill” Harrison (Ellen) of Vidalia, Georgia; and her cherished feline companion, Dave.
