Linda Mabry

d. November 17, 2015

ATLANTA, GA- Linda Mabry died on Tuesday, November 17, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road in Macon. The family will greet friends following the service. A native of Miami, Florida, she was the daughter of Clyde and Mary Mabry. She lived in Macon for 28 years before moving to Atlanta in 2001. She graduated from the University of Miami with dual undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Art History. She received her law degree from the University of North Dakota and was first admitted to practice law in South Carolina and then in Georgia in 1973. She was selected for the prestigious Reginald Heber Smith (Reggie) Fellowship, which trained law school graduates in various aspects of poverty law and placed them in regional legal services projects throughout the country. Always a champion of the less fortunate, her work as a "Reggie" preceded a lifetime of legal work promoting equal justice. For many years she had a trial practice, primarily in the federal courts, where she focused on employment and racial discrimination matters. Among her memberships in various professional organizations, she was a member of the State Bar of Georgia, former member of the State Bar of South Carolina, and was a former member of the Macon Bar Association. She was active in both the local and state Democratic party and was a former local counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union. Her leisure time passions were traveling and art, and she enjoyed combining the two while visiting numerous art museums and theaters on her travels to Paris, London, New York, and many other destinations. She is survived by her husband, Gevin Lindsey of Atlanta, the man she loved and shared a life with for 24 years; stepdaughter, Kathy Steele of Tampa, Florida; sister, Carolyn Whitney of California; motherin-law, Joyce Lindsey of Macon; brother-in-law, Gary Lindsey of Atlanta; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Glisa and Floyd Buford of Macon. F. L. Sims Funeral Home of Smyrna, Georgia has been entrusted with arrangements: www.SIMSFUNERALS.com.
