Linda Stevens Burton, 86, passed away at Atrium Health Navicent Hospice in Macon, GA on November 11, 2022.
Linda was born on November 20, 1935, in Fitzgerald, GA to the late Webster Linwood and Ruby Pearl Stevens. She grew up in Willacoochee, GA, where she lived an idyllic childhood. Linda received a Nursing Diploma from the Grady Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and she served for over forty years as a Registered Nurse in Atlanta, Marietta, Sandersville, and her home of Macon, GA.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Webster Linwood Stevens, Jr. her former husband and father of her children, Charles Hill, and her husband Wendell Burton.
Linda is survived by her children, Daphne Hyatt (Todd) of Dacula, GA and Stevens Hill (Louise) of Dublin, GA, her five grandchildren: Courtland Hyatt (Callie), Alexander Hyatt, Griffin Hill, Graham Hill, and Elizabeth Hill, her sister-in-law, Janice Stevens, her niece, Wendy Stevens Hatcher, her nephew Webster L. (Trae) Stevens (Tracey), Wendell’s children, Lynn Johnson (Hal) and Chad Burton both of Macon, Georgia, Wendell’s grandchildren: Blair McCarthy (John), Paris Burton, Sailor Burton, Meagan Cook (Adam), and Tripp Johnson, Wendell’s great-grandchildren: Mary Burton Cook and Benjamin Cook, several great nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Affectionately known as “Gigi” by her family, those who know Linda well have described her as caring, elegant, generous, whip smart, charming, gracious, determined, thoughtful, brave, open-minded, resilient, and humble. Additionally, she was eternally stylish, and she was “the best-dressed in the room” everywhere she went. Simply put, she was hard to miss and even harder not to like. Through her final days, Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach, finding a good bargain, dancing to live music, watching cooking shows and college football, and petting her cats, Miss Kitty and Milo. She left this world the same way she lived: with poise, beauty, and resolve, and on her own terms. She will be dearly missed. We love you, Gigi.
