Macon-Lillian Cox Whalen, one month shy of 100 years, died Sunday, December 6, 2009. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at St. Andrew Christian Church with the Reverend William Tyre officiating. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 8, 2009 between 6:00-8:00PM at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Family may be contacted at 5009 Tucker Ridge, the residence of Charlie and Joan Whalen. Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to St. Andrew Christian Church, 6220 Thomaston Road, Macon, GA 31220.
Mrs. Whalen was a charter member of Houston Avenue Christian Church and St. Andrew Christian Church where she was an Elder Emeritus, and a Sunday School teacher. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved the Lord and her family. Mrs. Whalen was predeceased by her parents, Oliver Eugene Cox, Sr. and Fannie Lou Phelps Cox; her husband of 63 years, Charlie Eldridge Whalen, Sr.; her sisters, Lura Lanier and Mary Brunson; and her brother, Oliver Eugene Cox, Jr.
Survivors include her son, Charlie E. Whalen, Jr. (Joan) of Macon; three grandchildren, Sherri Whalen Thigpin (Danny) of Macon, Charles Robbie Whalen (Kim) of Macon, Rhonda Whalen Steger (Marty) of Fayetteville, GA; five great grandchildren, Ashley Thigpin, Alex Thigpin, Casey Whalen, Samantha Whalen, and Zemmie Steger; sisters, Maude Marshall of Macon and Joyce Judd (Ed) of Macon; brothers, Monroe Cox (Cleone) of Lizella and Roy Cox (Peggy) of Tallapoosa, GA; and many nieces and nephews. Thanks to special caregivers, Judy Cooper, Barbara Knowles and Jeanette Loyd.
