Lillian Mcleroy Spiller

Lillian McLeroy Spiller, 90, formerly of Macon died peacefully on December 8, 2009 in Marietta, Georgia. She was born on March 14, 1919 in Eatonton, Ga., the seventh child of Annie Kate Bustin McLeroy and Ed Brown McLeroy. She was a 1936 honor graduate of Putnam County High School and moved to Macon in 1937 where she resided for 71 years before relocating to Marietta earlier this year. She married Robert L. Spiller in 1939 and they raised three children, Lewis, Barbara, and Anita. Mrs. Spiller attended Macon State College and was retired from Warner Robins Air Force Base where she was a contract negotiator in the Procurement Directorate. She was an active member of her community engaging in many service projects through Cross Keys United Methodist, where she was a faithful member for 61 years. Mrs. Spiller loved her church, her family, friends, special neighbors and her garden. Known for her kindness and generosity, she was a beautiful person inside and out who will be greatly missed. Mrs. Spiller was predeceased by her husband in 1969 and is survived by her children Lewis W. Spiller of Lawrenceville, Ga., Barbara S. Hopkins and husband John of Flowery Branch, Ga., Anita S. Bittner and her husband Len of Marietta, Ga. Grandchildren include Natalie Hopkins of Duluth, Ga., Taylor Hopkins and his wife Joye of Atlanta, Ga., Rob Spiller of Gainesville, Ga., Cody Bittner Hughey and her husband Josh of Asheville, North Carolina. Great grandchildren are Noah, Ella, and Catie Hopkins and Vivianna Hughey. She is also survived by her brother Sam McLeroy of Eatonton, Ga. and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street, in Macon, Ga. on Thursday, December 10 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. The Reverend Steve Waldorf will officiate at the funeral service to be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Cross Keys United Methodist Church in Macon.
