Virginia moved to Macon in 1931 when her father was called to serve as Superintendent of the Hephizabah Children's Home. Her mother worked faithfully alongside her father taking care of the staff and needs of children for eleven years. After the death of Virginia's father, Mrs. Jones came to Macon to live with her daughter who compassionately took care of her in her Wesleyan Woods home until her death in 2006 at age 102. Virginia graduated from A. L. Miller High School for Girls in 1939. She then graduated from the GAB School of Commerce in Macon in 1940. She and her late husband, Berl, made Macon their home for more than 50 years. She was a member of Vineville United Methodist Church since 1954 and a devoted member of the Edmund F. Cook Sunday School Class. She loved music and sang in the Chancel Choir at Vineville for many years. She retired from Civil Service after working for the Social Security Administration for more than 20 years. She continued giving tirelessly in retirement to our community as a member of the Middle Georgia Historical Society and as Assistant Director and docent for the Sidney Lanier Cottage on High Street. She supported many local organizations with her memberships in The Macon Symphony Orchestra, Theatre Macon, The Macon Little Theatre and one of her old favorites, The Morning Music Club of Macon.
