Lieutenant Colonel Charles "Bud" Discher

Lieutenant Colonel Charles "Bud" Discher passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 13, 2015. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015, at 11:00AM at Christ Episcopal Church, 582 Walnut Street, Macon, Georgia 31201, with the Reverend Bryan Hinson officiating. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at 1183 Georgia Avenue, College Street entrance, from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. Charles was born on February 6, 1949, in Macon to Charles A. Discher Sr., and Margaret Irvine Discher. He was a 1968 graduate of Lanier High School and later from Brenau University. He enlisted in the Georgia National Guard in 1969 and retired in 2008. He served in various enlisted positions and later in staff command positions earning him the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military career was highlighted with many awards, accolades and honors befitting his exemplary career. Bud, as he was known by many, was the consummate outdoorsman. He enjoyed pursuing his hobbies of hunting and fishing. He took great pride in his culinary talents as well. Bud was a lifetime member of the National Guard Association as well as a member of the Coastal Conservation Association, AKO High School Fraternity and attended Christ Episcopal Church. Bud is survived by his wife of 28 years Katherine "Kacy" Oliver Discher; sons, Charles Alfred (Chad) Discher, III (Jamie) of Burleson, TX, and Robert Lee Discher of Macon, Georgia; grandson, Micah Charles Discher of Burleson, Texas; brother, Carl Perry Discher, II (Marion); sister, Parnell Discher Pollock (Fred) of Hendersonville, Tennessee; nieces, Maggie Discher and Jessica Kiefer; nephews, Patrick Pollock, Mark Pollock, Lee Percy Oliver IV, and James Carmichael Oliver; brother-in-law, Lee Percy Oliver III (Becky); and first cousin Benjy Griffith (Teresa). Former and current National Guardsmen are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, P. O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675, or Friends of Rose Hill Cemetery, c/o Community Foundation of Central Georgia, 577 Mulberry Street, Suite 1600, Macon, Georgia 31201.
