Lewis Thomas Chapman

Lewis Thomas Chapman, 78, passed away on July 26, 2018. The family may be contacted on Saturday, July 28, 2018 from 5:00PM-7:00PM at the residence of Delise and Paul Knight, 1195 Taylor’s Mill Road, Fort Valley. A celebration of life will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Hart’s Mortuary, Cherry Street Chapel, 765 Cherry Street, Macon, GA with the Reverend Joe McDaniel officiating. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jay’s Hope Christmas Celebration, 1157 B Forsyth St. Macon, GA 31201.

Lewis was born in Macon, Georgia to the late Charlie Thomas Chapman and Ada DeLoach Chapman. He graduated from Lanier High School for Boys in 1958 and served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Bryce Canyon. Lewis was a retired welder, and the master of many trades. In later years, Lewis was a member of the Real Bearded Santas. Lewis enjoyed bringing joy to young and old alike. Lewis played Santa in Miracle on 34th St. with the Macon Little Theatre. He donated his time to organizations such as Jay’s Hope. Lewis was his happiest when he was making children smile. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Huggins Chapman.

His memory will be forever cherished by his loving children: Delise Knight (Paul), Steven Chapman (Tara), Mark Chapman (Tara Pickett), and Donyal Tripp (Michael); 6 beautiful granddaughters; sister, Joyce Hughes Stokes; and a brother, Donald Chapman.
