Chip Wagner, 69, of Gray, died on Saturday, February 27, 2021. Due to wanting to protect his family and friends from COVID, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Academy for Classical Education, Athletics Department, 5665 New Forsyth Road, Macon, GA 31210.
Chip was born in Annapolis, Maryland to the late Leonard and Peggy Wagner. He was also predeceased by a son, Joseph Wagner, and a grandson, Levi Wagner Clark. He served for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department from 1989 through 2013, serving on the drug squad, Fugitive squad, and criminal investigations squad. He was selected Officer of the Year in 1994, 1997, and 2010. After retiring as a Senior Lieutenant, he became Director of Safety and Facilities for the Academy for Classical Education. Chip loved to fish and play golf. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Atlanta Braves and the Georgia Bulldogs. He lived for his grandchildren and loved watching them play sports, never missing a practice or game. Very dedicated to his family, he was an amazing father and grandfather.
Chip is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Wagner of Gray; son, Chip Wagner III of Macon; daughter, Shannon Wagner (Joey Clark) of Gray; four grandchildren, Walker McDade, Gracie McDade, Reese Clark, and Camden Wagner; and brother, Tod Wagner of Millersville, Maryland.
