Lawrence Mayer Hoff

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Mr. Lawrence Mayer Hoff on November 5, 2025. Lawrence was born in Lynn, Massachusetts to David Hoff and Bernice Selma Copans Hoff and grew up in Swampscott, Massachusetts. He attended Swampscott High School, graduating in 1951. In 1949 he was the assistant manager of the high school baseball team when they won the Class B State Championship. He then attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He was a member of Delta Sigma Chi fraternity at University of Massachusetts. At Umass he was the student manager of the baseball team when they played in the 1954 College World Series. He then joined the Army, and served 2 ½ years in Orleans, France as the company mail clerk. He also received a master’s in public administration from Georgia College in 1975.

After his time in the service, he worked at Robins Air Force Base for 30 years, retiring as a Logistics Officer. He spent time during his employment at Robins AFB in Oman and Taiwan serving as Logistic Support. He then spent 20 years working in tax preparation and consultation for Randy Green’s Better Income Tax Service.

During his lifetime he was a member of the Moose Club in Macon for many years. He was also active in bowling leagues and loved to play tennis. He was a volunteer driver for Golden Opportunities. He also worked with MARC Workshop in the late 1960’s.

He and his wife Freda enjoyed travelling to many places. They loved going to Georgia Bulldog Football games and dancing the night away at St. Simons Island.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Gray Hoff. Left to cherish his memory is his sister, Diane Hoff-Rome (Gordon Dobbie) of Corvallis, OR; daughters, Sharon Royal (Randy) of Pinehurst, GA and Jeannette Allen (Chuck) of Pinehurst GA; son, Lawrence David Hoff from Macon GA; step-daughters, Janna Maresco (Rich) of Cumming, GA and Jolie Bailey of Sandy Springs GA; grandchildren: Elizabeth Alley (Ryan) of Twiggs County, GA, Sarah Nipper (Jordy) of Gray, GA, Johnathan Brett (Elizabeth) of Timonium, MD, Kevin Kitchens (Tiffany) of Kennesaw, GA, Shawna Oates (Tyler) of Evergreen, CO, Adam Maresco (Rachel) of Sandy Springs, GA, Alyssa Maresco of Charleston, SC , Katie Love Bailey and Grant Bailey of Sandy Springs, GA. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren: Freddie Dean Edwards III (Jaycee) and Colt Phillips of Twiggs County, GA, Landon and Peyton Nipper of Gray, GA, Felicity, Theodore and Adelaide Brett of Timonium, MD, and Myles Maresco of Sandy Springs, GA; and he has one great-great-granddaughter, Eva Grace Edwards, expected in May.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1PM to 3PM on December 8th 2025, at Cherokee Pines, 1000 N Davis Dr, Perry, GA 31069.
