Lawrence Alphens Fortney, Sr. died Sunday, November 20, 2011. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, at Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. Dr. William Hurdle and the Reverend Tommy Mason will officiate. Burial will be a private ceremony in Morgantown, West Virginia. The family will greet friends following the service. Donations may be made to The Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204 or to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 149, Macon, GA, 31202.

Mr. Fortney was the son of the late Olan Victor Fortney and the late Ida Amelia Wilson Fortney. He was predeceased by his brothers, Daniel W. Fortney and Wayne Hollis Fortney. He was a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church and Idle Hour Country Club and was a 33rd Degree Mason. Mr. Fortney was born and grew up in Morgantown, West Virginia. He moved to Macon in 1953 and was the owner of Larry's Mobile Homes. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved his family.

Mr. Fortney is survived by his wife, Julianne Fortney; son, Lawrence "Al" Fortney, Jr. of Waynesville, North Carolina; daughter, Leanna Fortney Smith (Tom) of Marietta, Georgia; granddaughter, Julianne Taylor Smith; and several nieces and nephews.
