Laurene Johnson Wooten

July 19, 1926 — November 11, 2020

Laurene Johnson Wooten, 94, of Macon, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020.  A graveside service will be held Friday, November 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Macon Memorial Park with the Reverends Chip Miller and John Kinser officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 682 Mulberry St., Macon, GA 31201.

Mrs. Wooten was a member of the Nine Patch Quilt Club, winning numerous awards at quilting shows.  She instructed many people in the art of quilting.  She worked for WBML, where she was the story lady for Red Goose Shoes. She also worked as a secretary for the March of Dimes Polio Foundation.  She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church.  Mrs. Wooten was preceded in death by her son, James H. “Buz” Wooten, III, and brother, Irvin “Sonny” Johnson.

Mrs. Wooten is survived by her husband of 71 years, James “Buster” Wooten, Jr. of Macon; children, Penny Wooten Brinson (Clay) of Abingdon, Virginia and Jonathan Kim Wooten (Betsy) of Johnson City, Tennessee; grandchildren, John Kilgore (Michelle) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Andrew Kilgore of Bristol, Tennessee, Bill Kilgore (Cindy) of El Paso, Texas, Hannah Kilgore of Johnson City, Tennessee, Jim Wooten (Lorena) of Macon, Katie Wooten Carollo (Tom) of Cumming, Georgia, Sam Wooten of Macon, Ben Wooten of Knoxville, Tennessee, Josh Wooten, and Gracie Wooten, both of Johnson City, Tennessee; 9 great grandchildren; and brother, Robbie Johnson (Marlene) of Macon.

The family would like to thank Toni Campbell for her care and compassion, and the love and support of their friends and neighbors, Dave and Lisa Breitenbach.
