Macon

Larry Burton Stinson, 79, of Macon, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Larry was born on October 8, 1946, to the late Hilton C. Stinson and Betty Coleman Stinson in Swainsboro, Georgia. With the exception of seven years away for military service and college, Larry was a lifelong resident of Macon and a 1964 graduate of Willingham High School. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving with the 716th Military police Bn and the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam, 1967 to 1968. After completing his undergraduate and graduate degrees journalism in 1972 at the University of Georgia, he joined the administration of what is now Middle Georgia State University. He served on the staff of the first five presidents of the Macon-based institution and first retired in 2003 as vice president for marketing and communications. He returned to the campus on a part time basis for an additional five years as chief of staff. He was most proud of his contributions to the creation of the Warner Robins campus and the college's designation as a baccalaureate institution of the University System of Georgia.

Larry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Bellflower Stinson of Macon; daughter, Ashley Stinson McCook (Thomas) of Macon; brothers, Fred G. Stinson (Phyllis) of Blairsville, and Michael H. Stinson (Gaye) of Blairsville; sister-in-law Linda Bellflower, Atlanta; four nephews, Randy (Ashleigh) Stinson, Cumming, Robert Stinson, Denver, Colorado; Camdon Stinson, Blairsville, Kyle Stinson, Gainesville, Georgia; and one niece, Sherry (Rob) Anderson, Tampa, Florida.
