Kristen “Kristy” Schlottman Burkhalter, 67, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, with the Reverend Andy Oxford officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.
Daughter of the late George Clinton Schlottman and Shirley Pullen Schlottman, Kristy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on June 30, 1956. She spent her formative years on the move, starting in New Orleans, then shifting to Fort Benning, Georgia due to her father’s dedication as a U.S. Army physician. She later settled in Macon, Georgia, where she attended and graduated from Stratford Academy. It was there she met the love of her life, John Burkhalter, in 1973. Their love blossomed, leading to a beautiful marriage in 1975 that continued to flourish throughout the years.
Kristy dedicated over 40 years of her life to Fresenius Medical Care, where she excelled as a patient account manager. Her steadfast commitment and empathy for others were evident in the way she managed her responsibilities and cared for those around her.
A woman of many interests, Kristy found joy in the simplicity of life. She was a talented individual with a passion for crocheting and cross-stitching. An excellent cook, she poured love into the meals she prepared for her family. The beach held a special place in her heart, and she cherished every moment spent at the family home in Steinhatchee, Florida
Recently, Kristy moved to Pine Mountain, Georgia, seeking the comfort and joy of being closer to her loved ones, especially her grandchildren.
Kristy's warm spirit and her luminous presence will be profoundly missed but will continue to light the lives of her family and friends. The world was undoubtedly a better place with her in it.
Kristy is survived by her daughters, Shannon Phillips (Joey), of Pine Mountain, Georgia, and Sarah Louise Burkhalter, of Florida; grandchildren: Noah Phillips (Araceli), Jacob Chestnut, Abby Phillips, and Drew Phillips; great granddaughter, Maya Phillips; sister, Gretchen Schlottman, of St. Simons Island, Georgia; and stepmom, Claudia Schlottman.
In addition to her parents, Kristy was preceded in death by her husband, John Allan Burkhalter; son, John Clinton Burkhalter; and brothers, Rusty Schlottman and Robert Schlottman.
