Knox was born on May 19, 1939, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Lewis Thomas and Roberta Johnson Childers. He met the love of his life, Janelle, when they were in their early teens, and they built their entire life on an everlasting love that will be a legacy to his family for generations to come.

Knox played baseball for West Georgia College and was a big Georgia Tech fan. He worked his entire career in the wholesale electrical industry until he was 80 years old. He and Janelle owned and operated the Macon Christian Bookstore. He was a member, elder, and deacon at Mable White Memorial Baptist Church, serving the church for over 40 years. Knox loved nurturing animals and working in the yard and would wave to everyone who passed by. Many young men would seek his wise counsel. He was a man of strength with a quiet and meek spirit yet remained steady and firm under any circumstance. Knox courageously fought Lewy Body Dementia for the last few years. He was loved by all and will be missed greatly by his family, especially by his grandchildren who called him “Buddy”. He was the best dad ever!

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice, Shawn Peterson, and especially Gloria Ussery for their excellent care and compassion they showed to Knox.

Mr. Childers is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Janelle King Childers; his children, Chris Childers and Robin Childers Orlando (John), both of Macon; his grandchildren, Anna Battle Saleh (Omar) of Macon, and Katie Battle Threadgill (Jonathan) of Suwanee; his five great-grandchildren, Nour Saleh, Sam Saleh, Knox Threadgill, Kora Threadgill, and Everett Threadgill; and his brother, Tommy Childers (Jean) of Douglasville, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his parents and his two grandsons, Austin Christopher Childers and Garrett Colin Childers.
