Kenneth Smithwick Thompson

Kenneth Smithwick Thompson died suddenly on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the home of friends. Memorial services will be at 11:00AM Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Mulberry Street United Methodist Church with the Reverend Tommy Mason, senior pastor, officiating. Interment will be private at Riverside Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the church following the service. The family can be contacted at the residence, 1260 Nottingham Drive. They request that any memorials be made to Mulberry Street United Methodist Church and to Macon Outreach or the charity of the donor's choice. Mr. Thompson was born near Windsor, NC, son of William Luther and Annie Ruth Smithwick Thompson. He was educated and attended Wake Forest before serving in the United States Air Force in the Korean Conflict. Following this, he moved to Atlanta and received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from Southern College of Pharmacy now a part of Mercer University and practiced pharmacy for more than 50 years. In 1960, he moved his family to Macon, becoming a partner in two Chichesters drug stores, Town and Country on Gray Highway and Harrison's in Ingleside Village, and opened and operated Coliseum Park Pharmacy until his retirement. He was a member of the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association more than 50 years and a member of the Macon Kiwanis Club for forty years. He was a member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church where he served several times on the official Board and was a member of the Joy Class. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martha Adams Thompson, sons William Kenneth Thompson of Duluth, Georgia, Dana Adams Thompson and his wife Katie of Roswell, Georgia; daughters Mollie Thompson Deal, husband Lee, of Macon and Julia Mitchell Thompson of Roswell, Georgia. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jesse Lee and Ryan Deal, Logan Deal-Figuroa all of Macon and by Clay Adams and Sarah Anne Thompson of Roswell, Georgia as well as his brother and sister-in-law Riley and Carolyn Thompson of Windsor, NC and his sister Jean Thompson Hinds of Daniels Island, SC and many nieces and nephews.
