Raised in downtown Macon with his friends at Washington Park, Ken attended Alexander II Elementary and Lanier Junior High. He was among the first students at Mark Smith High School, the new high school in northeast Macon, where he was a member of Sedarmoc Fraternity and was selected as "Best Citizen" of the class of 1968. He served on the Student Council for 5 years at both Lanier Junior and Mark Smith. He was also one of the initial graduates in the class of 1971 at Macon Junior College (now MGSU). A proud supporter of Mercer University, Ken graduated in 1972 with a BA Degree in Economics. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. Ken worked his way through college with the Macon Bibb County Recreation Department, never losing his love for sports of all kinds. He was a member of Brickyard Golf Club. A bogey golfer at best, he was lucky enough to record 3 hole-in-ones in his lifetime. Ken loved the outdoors, hunting, and fishing, and volunteered with DU and the NWTF. His professional career included time spent in the banking, insurance, and automotive industries, before retirement from Georgia Farm Bureau with 19 years of service in 2021. At Farm Bureau, he was a Senior District Reunderwriter and attained the professional distinction of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He was a lifelong United Methodist, having been a member of Centenary UMC, Milledgeville First UMC, and Vineville UMC, serving as an usher at all three churches for over 50 years.
His greatest accomplishment in life was his marriage to Deborah Carr Clarke, his high school sweetheart and love of his life. They were happily married for 54 years. He was the proud father of Tara Clarke (Barry) Butcher and Samuel Kenneth (Endia) Clarke. He adored his grandchildren, Baylor and Carson Butcher, Zayah and Oaklyn Clarke.
