Kathryn Jarvis Jones

Kathryn Jarvis Jones died peacefully at her home on August 6, 2023.  There will be a visitation on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, from 5pm-7pm at Hart’s at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Rd. Burial will be private at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Kathryn was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on April 7, 1939.  She was the daughter of the late Howard Foute Jarvis and Eleanor Bidwell Jarvis Lamb.  In 1952, her family moved to Blackberry Farm in Walland, TN.  She attended Maryville High School and later graduated from St. Anne’s-Belfield School in Virginia.  In 1961, after graduating from Emory University with a BA in English, Kathryn began her teaching career.  While teaching English at Everglades School for Girls in Miami, she met her husband Dr. Robert Holmes Jones of Macon, Ga.  They married in 1964 and moved to Macon where he opened his medical practice and she taught at McEvoy until they started their family.

Kathryn was a member of North Macon Presbyterian Church.  Affectionately known as “Mamoo”, she loved to travel, garden, and spend time with her children and grandchildren.  She is survived by her four daughters: Ellie Jones Farriba (Mark) and Amelia Jones Smith (Steve) both of Macon, Liza Jones Sumowski (Rob) of Haddock, Ann Jones Nash (Ronnie) of Maryville, TN, fourteen grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert H. Jones, her brother The Honorable James Howard Jarvis II, and her sister Mary Ann “Cookie” Jarvis.

Her daughters would like to thank Dawn Johnson and Traditions Hospice for their guidance and support.  They would also like to especially thank Shirley Willis for her many years of dedication and devotion to their mom’s care.  In addition, they would like to thank Ariel Patterson, Laura Akins, Angelic Hearts, and Caring Companions.
