Kathleen Grady Horne was born in Macon, Georgia, and graduated from A.L. Miller high school. She was a graduate of Wesleyan College with a degree in English literature and throughout her life remained an avid reader. For many years she was a teacher at Bellevue school in Macon. While a life-long resident of Macon, she also loved spending time at her family cottage on St. Simons Island. Mrs. Horne was a charter member of Riverside United Methodist Church. Over the years she was active in many organizations including the Wesleyan Alumnae Association, the Nathaniel Macon chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Keenagers at First Baptist Church, the XYZ Club, Belles and Beaus, the "Young at Heart" at Mulberry United Methodist Church, and the Grady Bunch at Vineville United Methodist Church. In addition she was a member of the Macon Exchangettes, the Bibb Retired Teachers Group and a life member of the Gold Star Wives of America and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary. Mrs. Horne was predeceased by her husband, Fred B. Horne, who was a fighter pilot in World War II, her parents, Lester W. and Lois Shealy Grady, and her sister, Luanne Grady Lanyon. Survivors include her children Kathy Horne of Savannah and Rick Horne of Atlanta, her sister Wayne Grady Frey, four grand children, Jason Pedigo, Jessica Pedigo, Maggie Horne and Trey Horne, and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM, Wednesday, November 26, 2008 in the chapel at Hart's Mortuary at 765 Cherry Street, Macon after which the family will receive guests. Burial will private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204, or Cherokee Heights United Methodist Church, 2590 Napier Avenue, Macon, GA 31204. Hart's Mortuary and Crematory has charge of arrangements.
