Kathleen Watson Childres

Kathleen Watson Childres, 88, of Macon, Georgia, passed away Monday, February 12, 2024. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2024, in the Chapel of Hart’s on Cherry Street, with Reverend Mark Grinsted officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service. Burial will be private at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to MCN Club, Inc. (Friends of Mauk Schoolhouse) P.O. Box 17, Mauk, Georgia 31058, or Trinity Freewill Baptist Church, 1335 GA Highway 90 West, Mauk, Georgia 31058.

Mrs. Childres is survived by her children, Harold Childres (Stephanie) of Fairhope, Alabama, Kathy Moody (Bill Richardson) of Byron, Georgia; five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Her devoted husband of 54 years, Robert “Bobby” Childres, preceded her in death in 2010.  She was the last survivor of George and Jewel Watson’s eight children.

Although Mrs. Childres was a tiny lady, she was an outstanding cook, preparing three meals a day for many years. She had a remarkable talent with plants, was a voracious reader, loved rock n' roll (and Tom Jones) and dancing with Bobby. In earlier years, she visited and cared for friends at nursing homes. Also in years past, she enjoyed time spent with family in Charing and Butler, Georgia. She vacationed many summers at Fernandina Beach, Florida and traveled many places, including England, Canada, and Mexico, but always was eager to get back home.
