Katherine Hooks Ross Byers

Katherine Hooks Ross Byers, of North Augusta, South Carolina passed away Friday, June 17, 2011. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary, Cherry Street. Burial will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery, Macon, Ga. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. till 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. She was born in Lexsy, Georgia, Emmanuel County to the late Ray R. Hooks and Nettie Smith Hooks. She was the widow of Karl W. Byers. She was a graduate of Swainsboro High School, West Georgia College and received a Master's degree at the University of Georgia. She taught school at Loganville High School and Miller Sr. High School in Macon, Ga. Mrs. Byers also taught Home Economics at the Vocational School. Her teaching career lasted over 30 years. She was also a faithful member of Tattnall Square Baptist Church in Macon, Ga., the Ruth Sunday School Class, and the retired Teachers Association. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Allen and her brother, Roy Milton Hooks. She is survived by her son, Lamar H. Ross and daughter in law, Joan Ross. Grandson, Daniel Ross, all of Alpharetta, Ga. Sisters, Lynell Houston of Jacksonville, Florida; Sara Mintz of North Augusta, South Carolina, Ann Mason of Beech Island, South Carolina, and Patty Kersey of Lexsy, Georgia. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to the Tattnall Square Baptist Church, 4925 Zebulon Road, Macon, Ga. 31210. Friends may sign the online register at www.hartsmort.com.
