Katherine King “Kathy”, 72, of Gray, Georgia, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025. The family will greet friends at Hart’s Mortuary, Jones County Chapel, 307 Pecan Lane, Gray, Ga. from 10:00am to 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 15, 2025. The funeral service will follow at 12:30 at First Baptist Church, 134 W. Clinton Street, Gray, Ga. 31032. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
Kathy was born on April 12, 1953, in Rome, Georgia to the late Robert Camp and Juanita Camp. Kathy graduated from West Rome High School and attended the University of Georgia for two years. After University of Georgia, Kathy had several different jobs before she ended up at Mingledorff’s Inc. in Atlanta, Georgia as the receptionist for Bud Mingledorff in 1979. It was at Mingledorff’s that she met her husband to be, George King, in 1981. They were married on July 16, 1982, and she moved to Macon. Kathy kept a house that was impeccably clean, and she loved to work with plants in the yard. She was also a great cook of the grouper and snapper that were caught in the Gulf of America. Kathy was a huge fan of Alan Jackson and Mickey Gilley. She loved everyone in the family and went out of her way to make the King family a group of loving people.
Kathy’s greatest accomplishment was when she attended Church of the Wildwood at Lake Wildwood in Macon. The church wanted to build an after-school building for children. Kathy took on full responsibility of fund raising, construction and painting murals inside the building. She also painted clouds on the ceiling using a forklift. She said she was led by Christ to do it and she did.
Kathy is survived by her husband, George King; her children, Glenn King (Debbie) and Doug King (Melinda); five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and many more loving relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Phillip Camp.
