Macon- Karl W. Guthrie, 81, of Macon, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012. Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road. The family will greet friends from 1:00PM until 2:00PM on Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to National Brittany Spaniel Rescue and Adoption Network, P. O. Box 3258, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15230 or to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 830 Poplar Street, Macon, Georgia 31201.

Mr. Guthrie, born in Terre Haute, Indiana, was the son of the late Clifford Henry Guthrie and the late Emma Catherine Weaver Guthrie. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict on a sea plane. Mr. Guthrie was a member of the first Industrial Engineering class of Purdue University. He retired from Brown and Williamson after twenty-seven years of service. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. An avid golfer and woodworker, he was president of Men's Golf Association at River North and was a founding member, board member and Treasurer of the Dixie Senior Golf Association. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ICU staff at Coliseum Northside Hospital.

Mr. Guthrie is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Barbara J. Guthrie; son, David Wayne Guthrie (Bonnie) of Pearl, Mississippi; daughter, Vanessa Hedge (Robert) of Roanoke, Virginia; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Margaret Fortner of Terre Haute, Indiana and his beloved Brittany Spaniel, Patti.
