Karen Imogene Swanson died unexpectedly in her sleep the night of April 28-morning of April 29, 2018. Memorial Services will be held at 6:00 PM, Friday, May 11, 2018 at Hart’s at the Cupola. Karen was born in Sidney, Nebraska, September 5, 1948 to Imogene Elizabeth Harrison Swanson of Willoughby, Mississippi and Ralph Albert Swanson of Minden, Nebraska. She graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1969 at age 20. Karen lived with her mother until her mother's death in Niles, Ohio in 1982. Following that, she lived with her father in Ashtabula, Ohio, until his death in 2000. At that time, she went to live with her only sibling, her younger sister, Diane Elizabeth Swanson Vann, until Karen’s death in Macon, Georgia. Diagnosed with classic Turner's Syndrome in 1981, Karen handled her disability with grace and maturity. She was a Christian and had a kind soul, always striving to do her best. Karen worked at Goodwill in Ashtabula, Ohio. She loved reading biographies and working on the newspaper’s daily jumble. She also had an amazing capacity for remembering significant family dates, including birthdays, anniversaries, deaths, etc. She always greeted people with a smile on her face and was a great inspiration to all who knew her. Truthfully said, Karen never willfully hurt any living thing in her entire life, person or animal. Always a blessing, she will be greatly missed by her sister, Diane and brother-in-law, James Robert Vann III of Abbeville, Alabama and her special friends, dogs, Buddy, Bell and Lucy and cats, Sam and Pepper.
