Julius Nieder

March 23, 1929 — July 18, 2016

Julius Nieder, 87, of 245 Trotters Run, died on Monday, July 18, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 7:00PM on Saturday, July 23, 2016 in the chapel of Hart's Mortuary at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road, for family and close friends of Mr. Nieder. The burial will take place in Chatham, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 886 Mulberry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201. Mr. Nieder was born on March 23, 1929 in South Haven, Michigan. He grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1947. Mr. Nieder served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Richmond Virginia Police Department for seven years. He moved to Fairfax, Virginia in 1967 when he started working for GEICO. He moved to Macon with the opening of the Southeastern Regional offices in 1974 and retired from GEICO on December 31, 1994. Mr. Nieder was a supporter of the Douglass Theater and a member of the Film Guild. He was a transportation volunteer for The Golden Opportunities program of the Medical Center of Central Georgia for ten years. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Nieder. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Nieder of Macon; son, Bill Nieder (Erin) of Warrenton, Virginia; daughter, Julie Nieder Perez of Macon; and four grandchildren, Brent Nieder, Cheryl Nieder, Emily Perez, and Thomas Perez.
