Judy Murray Norris

Judy Murray Norris, 81, of Gray, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on February 19, 2024.  Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church of Gray, Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 11:00AM, with the Reverend Randy Darnell officiating.  Graveside services will follow at Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Kite, Georgia, at 3:00PM, with the Reverend Burton Dixon officiating and grandsons and sons-in-law serving as pall bearers.  The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at First Baptist Church of Gray.

Judy was born in Panama City, Florida on June 25, 1942 to the late Julian and Dorothy Kight Murray.  She graduated from Kite High School in 1961.  After graduating from Crandall Business College in Macon, Judy worked as an accountant for Davis Accounting in Gray for nearly forty years.

Judy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Gray for nearly sixty years, where she was a member of Sara B. Sunday School Class. She served in many roles at First Baptist Church, with the music ministry being dearest to her heart and thirty years as Wednesday night supper hostess.  Judy was involved in many social and community activities with her favorite being the Kite Homemakers Club, where she worked to help improve her beloved hometown of Kite.  She also served as Chaplain for many years for the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Oliver Morton Chapter.

Judy was a life-long learner and traveler and used every minute of her days improving herself and the world around her. She was a true Southern lady and a devoted friend.  Judy was entirely dedicated to her husband, Pete, her family, and her Savior, Jesus Christ.  She was a shining example of God’s love to all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, William “Pete” Norris; daughters, Pam Stevens (Brad) and Beth Johnson (Rob); grandchildren, Will Stevens (Lacey), Brianne McWilliams (Casey), Brantley Stevens (Megan), Annsley Johnson, and Bobby Johnson; great-grandchildren, Vallory, Colton, Turner, and Riley McWilliams and Mira and Kieran Stevens; brother, William “Billy” Cross; and sister, Patti Thigpin (Julian); sisters-in-law, Annelle Norris and Marvye Norris Woods.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Gray, 134 West Clinton Street, Gray, GA 31032, or to Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Vicki Ivey, P.O. Box 176, Kite, GA 31049.
