Judge Othniel Weaver Mcgehee

Judge Othniel Weaver McGehee Sr. of Macon, GA passed away on July 1, 2015. Judge McGehee was born on February 7, 1927, to James Thomas McGehee Jr. and Nell Frances Smith McGehee as the youngest of nine children. Before beginning a career in law, Judge McGehee served in the United States Army during WWII. Afterward, he attended Emory University School of Law, beginning his work as a lawyer in 1951. He served as the Judge of Recorders Court in Macon during the 1960s. He served as the Judge of the Bibb County Juvenile Court for 30 years before retiring in 1997. Throughout his career, Judge McGehee was recognized for his work in law as well as his work with the Macon-Bibb County Convention and Visitors Bureau and Kiwanis Club. He was a dedicated Christian and a faithful long-time member of Ingleside Baptist Church. Judge McGehee is preceded in death by his father, James Thomas McGehee Jr., his mother, Nell Frances Smith McGehee, his first wife, Patsy Echols McGehee and his stepdaughter Martha Malinda Balkcom . He is survived by his second wife, Jessie Balkcom McGehee, and his children, Debbie McGehee (Jim) Richards, Othniel W. "Buddy" (Mary) McGehee Jr., Julie McGehee (Mark) Wood, Frank Thomas (Stephanie) McGehee, Nell McGehee (John) Cain, Patsy McGehee (Todd) Stowe, his stepson Mark Steven (Nancy) Balkcom and his sister Nell McGehee Mathis. His legacy will live on with his fourteen surviving grandchildren. The visitation and funeral service will be held on July 6, 2015 at Ingleside Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the fellowship hall followed by the funeral at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Road, Macon, GA 31210 or Alzheimer's Association, 886 Mulberry Street, Macon, GA 31201.
