Surrounded by her family and friends, Joyce DuBose Stokes, 75, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 15, 2011 to await resurrection day. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Sardis Church Cemetery. Dr. Lee Sheppard, the Reverend Stephen N. Johnson, and the Reverend Joe McDaniel will officiate. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 PM on Monday at Hart's at the Cupola, 6324 Peake Road.
Joyce was born in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Samuel and Anne Bussell DuBose. She was predeceased by 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Joyce was a member of Mabel White Memorial Baptist Church, the J.C. Johnson Bible Class, and a 25 year member of the adult choir. She was the former owner of Joyce's For Beauty at Westgate and later located on Houston Avenue. She recently retired from The Mane Place on Vineville Avenue.
In 1954, after a 4 year courtship, Joyce married E.Y. Stokes. She is also survived by son Steve Y. Stokes, Sr. (Pam) of Macon; daughters Kim Stokes McKinney (Daryl) of Macon and Lori Stokes Brooks (Dane) of Gray; grandchildren Stephen Y. Stokes, Jr. (Tina) of Tifton, Daniel, Susanna, and Tim Stokes of Macon, Brooks Hinton (Melissa) of Gordon, Carley Hinton of Macon, Taylor and Tanner Brooks of Gray; great-grandchildren Caleb and Sarah-Kate Hinton of Gordon and yet to be born, Madyson Bailey Stokes; and sister Neomia Chance of Danville.
