Joyce Roberts Griffin

Joy Griffin, 80, peacefully passed into the arms of her loving heavenly father surrounded by loved ones on Saturday, Dec. 16. Friends and family will gather to celebrate her life at Harts Mortuary on Peake Rd. on Sunday, from 3 to 5 pm. Services will be held at Lizella Baptist Church on Monday, at 11 am with graveside services at 1 pm. at Macon Memorial Park. Joy was born in Atlanta on September 12, 1937. She was exactly as her name describes her to all who knew her and even her children called her "Joy to the world". She served the community for many years through several local churches as well as other volunteer organizations. Joy loved working in her flower garden and was a certified Master Gardener. She loved to travel with her husband and together they visited 49 out of 50 U.S. states. She was a public servant with Macon-Bibb County for over 20 years with the Emergency Management Agency (EMA). Her efforts and hard work in the community earned her the position of Director of EMA where she loved working with her volunteers. Joy is survived by her beloved and devoted husband Gerald Griffin, son Johnny Battle of Macon, daughters Barbara and her husband Morgan Mohr of Houston, TX, Kathi Griffin of Macon, and Pamela and husband Rob Nicholson of Atlanta. Grandchildren include Doug Danat, Koban Battle, Lizzy Keene, Scott Chapman, and Terri Tyson along with seven great grandchildren. Joy is also survived by her brother Darrell and wife Betty Roberts and sister Amelia Waters along with seven nieces and nephews. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy Ruth Lowe and Marion Royce Roberts of Atlanta as well as brothers Royce and Alvin Roberts.
