Macon-Josephine Happ Willingham of Macon died April 15, 2010 at her residence. A memorial service will be held Monday April 19th at 11 A.M. at Christ Episcopal Church with the Reverend Harriette Simmons officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Burial will be private at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday at Hart's Mortuary, 765 Cherry Street. The family may be contacted at the residence. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 582 Walnut Street, Macon 31201, or to a charity of the donor's choic Josephine Happ Willingham was a graduate of Clisby Grammar School and A. L. Miller High School in Macon. She was a summa cum laude graduate of Sweet Briar College in Virginia and spent her junior year in college at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. During her life she was active in the Council on World Affairs, the League of Women Voters, the Junior League, the Democratic Party, the Macon Little Theatre, and the Morning Music Club. She supported many local and national charities, as well as non-profit organizations, especially the symphony, opera, arts related endeavors, and environmental causes. She was a devoted member of Christ Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School, served on the Altar Guild, and delivered Meals on Wheels for twenty six years. She was the daughter of the late Tatum Pope Happ and Lee Morris Happ and was preceded in death by her brother, Lee Morris Happ, Jr. and her husband, Osgood Spain Willingham. She is survived by her sons, Joseph Happ Willingham (Doris) of Berkeley, California, John Francis Willingham (Jane) of Macon, and daughter, Helen Willingham Meadors (Mortimer) of Rabun Gap, Georgia; daughter-in-law Kathy Willingham; grandsons Jackson Spain Willingham of San Francisco, California and Mortimer Frank Meadors of Vail, Colorado, and niece, Tatum Young of Clayton, Georgia. The family extends its gratitude to Hospice of Central Georgia, and special thanks for the loving care given by Kathy Willingham, Louise Francis, Kitty Rogers, Lena Billingslea, Iola Robinson, and Johnette Jacobs.
